EXPERIENCE SUMMARY
Ms. Warkentin has more than 25 years of management experience. As senior vice president for Human Resources and Administration, Ms. Warkentin is responsible for managing all aspects of DCI’s employee relations including recruitment, staff development, payroll, benefits administration and retirement plan oversight. She is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the agency including financial and information services. Ms. Warkentin manages the administrative office, helps create client budgets, supervises client billing and vendor payment and serves as liaison with DCI’s accounting, legal and building management firms.
Ms. Warkentin has also served as an educational associate for several DCI clients. For six years, she coordinated several educational efforts undertaken on behalf of Space Day. Underwritten by Lockheed Martin, Space Day is an award-winning education program that involves millions of students, teachers and space enthusiasts around the world. Each year, Ms. Warkentin coordinated the logistical support of “Stellar” Design Challenges teams who were invited to Washington, D.C. to participate in the National Space Day Opening Ceremony. Ms. Warkentin worked with their teachers and parents in advance of these trips and coordinated their press interviews and visits on Capitol Hill.
From 2001-2003, Ms. Warkentin served as treasurer of the Space Day Foundation. In that capacity, she managed the financial operations of the Foundation and supervised the work of an independent auditing firm. She managed the administrative needs of the Foundation including payroll, benefits administration, and retirement plan oversight.
From 1997-1998, Ms. Warkentin managed DCI’s customer relations department on behalf of Discovery Communications, Inc. This department was responsible for providing immediate online, telephone and letter responses to thousands of Discovery Channel, The Learning Channel and Animal Planet viewers. From 1992-1997, she was assistant manager of this department.
PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE
Prior to joining DCI, Ms. Warkentin was a legislative aide for a Fairfax County Supervisor and handled constituent issues involving taxes, education, social services and road construction. In addition, Ms. Warkentin was responsible for analyzing both the Fairfax County budget and the Fairfax School Board budget and keeping the Supervisor informed on budgetary impacts to her constituency.
As a former teacher and PTA president, Ms. Warkentin has been active on several countywide educational boards and commissions and has served on the Fairfax County Superintendent’s Community Advisory Council.
EDUCATION
Ms. Warkentin has a double bachelor’s degree in Special Education and Elementary Education from the University of Michigan (Phi Beta Kappa).
