EXPERIENCE SUMMARY
Jeffrey Crider is responsible for undertaking media relations efforts for AMVETS in selected U.S. markets. In 2004 he conducted a highly successful media relations campaign in California. He is in regular contact with the national military trade press as well as consumer, print and broadcast outlets. His efforts have resulted in positive coverage for AMVETS on CNN, National Public Radio, KABC-TV (Los Angeles) and in Stars & Stripes, Army Times, The Cincinnati Inquirer, The Kansas City Star, and The Orange County Register, among many others.
An award-winning journalist in his own right, Mr. Crider knows how to identify and provide solid news angles. He has successfully pitched many of the world’s premier media outlets including The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, the Los Angeles Times, The Associated Press, Reuters and NPR. Mr. Crider is also fluent in Spanish and has successfully pitched the nation’s best-known Spanish language newspapers on behalf of AMVETS and other clients.
PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE
Prior to his work at DCI, Mr. Crider was director of Media Relations for two California public relations agencies, Stoorza Communications, based in San Diego, and O’Reilly Public Relations in Riverside.
Mr. Crider launched his public relations career by serving as Public Relations manager for United States Filter Corporation (NYSE / USF), a Palm Desert, Calif.-based, Fortune 500 manufacturer of commercial, industrial, municipal and residential water treatment systems with operations in more than 90 countries. He developed US Filter’s national media strategy and worked with the company’s marketing managers in Europe, Asia and Latin America. He also supervised several high-profile media assignments in New York and Paris following US Filter’s acquisition by Vivendi.
As a working journalist, Mr. Crider was employed by three California dailies; The Press-Enterprise in Riverside, The Desert Sun in Palm Springs and the Imperial Valley Press in El Centro. He launched his journalism career with United Press International in Los Angeles.
Crider has received business writing and reporting awards from a number of media organizations including the California Newspaper Publishers Association, the Associated Press News Executives Council, Gannett and the Inland Empire Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists. He served as President of the Inland Empire Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists from 1997 to 1998.
EDUCATION
Mr. Crider holds a double master’s degree in Spanish and Latin American Studies from the Monterey Institute of International Studies and a double bachelor’s degree in Spanish and European Studies from Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles. He is fluent in Spanish, having studied Spanish, history and international relations in Madrid, Spain during his junior year of college.
